What’s in Season?

Tulips

Early Spring

Tulips are usually the first flowers to bloom each year on our farm, reminiscent of the brighter days soon to come. Typically the first to emerge in the spring these beauties don’t last long.

Sweet Peas

Late Spring-Early Summer

whimsical, dainty, and fragrant. Sweet peas are a lovely staple here on our farm. As they climb several feet high, they uplift any space they enter with butterfly like petals and strong pleasant scent. We offer a variety of colors and strategically plant them to ensure the longest growing window as possible for these cold loving annuals.

Delphinium

Late Spring-Early Summer

Tall and striking, these add vibrancy and height to any arrangement. Known for their especially long stems loaded with flowers that come in several colors. These bring whimsy wherever they go.

poppies

Late Spring-Early Summer

delicate and romantic with petals that are often silky and thin, the classic poppy is lovely in arrangements or standing alone. Colors ranging from bold reds, oranges, and yellows to softer shades of pink, white, and purple. The flowers typically have a central, dark seed pod that contrasts with the soft petals, and their stems are tall and slender.

Peonies

Spring-Early Summer

We have about 15 established peony bushes on our farm. Some of which have been on the property before we lived here. Such a romantic and soft flower, peonies remind us that warmer days are soon to come after a long Winter.

Celosia

Summer-Fall

Another favorite of ours at Funky Farm. The farm name partially being inspired by the unique funky nature of celosia. Such an otherworldly flower, unlike any others. This is a staple for drying as well as fresh the organic texture it brings to bouquets.

Cosmos

Summer-Fall

Cosmos are a fun and easy flower we grow here on the farm. Adding a touch of whimsy to every bouquet you put them in. Cosmos press to the most dainty and delicate dried flowers so we love growing several rows. We also grow sulfur cosmos for eco-printing projects.

Zinnias

Summer-Fall

Zinnias are a hardy favorite, with vibrant blooms throughout their season. We stagger plant to keep this bright annual abundant all season, making it a staple for flower drying for our preserved floral wreaths. We stagger plant to keep this bright annual abundantly flowering through the entire season.

Dahlias

Summer-Fall

Dahlia - the glorious queen of Fall. The ball style is our personal favorite. There's something about the vibrant colors and perfect symmetry that makes them so stunning. Plus, digging up tubers may be tedious, but it's oh-so-exciting. It feels like Christmas morning when counting all the new tubers for next season. It's a fantastic return on your investment.

Sunflowers

Summer-Fall

Sunflowers are a staple on our farm—an absolute favorite for us. We love tracking down unique styles and colors to add to our list each season. We all know of the standard yellow sunflower, but there are so many fun options to pick from.

Dye Plants

All seasons

Dye plants are botanicals that have been used historically. The craft continues to be used today to produce natural pigments or dyes for natural fibers. These plants contain compounds in their roots, stems, leaves, flowers, or fruits that can be extracted and used to color fabrics, fibers, and even food. Dye plants are valued for their rich, often earthy and vibrant hues, which can range from soft pastels to deep, intense colors. Mazie dyes clothing, bags, tea towels, and more with the plants grown right here on our farm. Flowers and leaves are also used for eco printed goods.

Filler & More

All seasons

Here on Funky Farm, we are always trialing new plants and fillers. Some things are grown in micro small batches to trial the variety, color, etc. We love exploring new fun textures to add variety and unique options for our CSA, florists, and wholesale orders.

Free Range Organic Chicken Eggs

All year long

We have 20 chickens, all of which are laying hens except for our only rooster. They eat a mix of organic grains, seeds, bugs and herbs & spices. And occasionally get some of the extra fruit and produce growing around the farm as a special treat. They lay eggs all year long but production slows down in the winter, and is at its highest during the warmer months.

Blackberries

We are able to harvest many pounds of blackberries during the summer time with our established blackberry bushes.

We are rather new to growing food, our expertise lies in the flowers. Thankfully our years of studying flowers have translated quite well because we are growing more food now than we ever have before. Most of the fruit and produce we grow is for ourselves, our friends, or our family.
